Last Day to Ship for Christmas 2026: USPS, UPS and FedEx Ship-By Dates

For delivery in time for Christmas 2026, USPS says to send Ground Advantage and First-Class Mail by Thursday, December 17, Priority Mail by Friday, December 18 and Priority Mail Express by Saturday, December 19. UPS's last days are Monday, December 21 for 3 Day Select, Tuesday, December 22 for 2nd Day Air and Wednesday, December 23 for Next Day Air. FedEx's are Tuesday, December 15 for Ground Economy, Monday, December 21 for Express Saver, Tuesday, December 22 for 2Day, Wednesday, December 23 for the Overnight services and Thursday, December 24 for SameDay. FedEx Ground and Home Delivery fall between December 17 and December 23 depending on how many transit days your lane takes, and UPS Ground has no published date at all.

One difference matters when you compare carriers: the USPS dates are for delivery before December 25, while the UPS and FedEx dates are for arrival by December 24. All of them are recommendations for the contiguous US rather than guarantees, and each one is the day the package has to be in the carrier's hands.

The dates come from the USPS holiday shipping dates page, the UPS holiday shipping schedule and the FedEx 2026 shipping deadlines chart. All three carriers say their dates can change, so look at the carrier's page again before you publish a cutoff that customers will hold you to.

Ground is the row to check carefully

The ground services usually cost less than air or express, and they have the least clear deadline.

  • FedEx Ground and Home Delivery: the last day depends on transit time to the destination ZIP code. Ship by December 17 for a 5-day lane, December 18 for 4 days, December 21 for 3 days, December 22 for 2 days and December 23 for 1 day. FedEx's Ground transit map shows the days from your origin, and how long FedEx Ground takes explains the bands.
  • UPS Ground: UPS does not publish a Christmas ship-by date for Ground because transit depends on the lane. Run the UPS time-in-transit calculator for the ZIP codes you ship to most and set your own date from the longest result. UPS does not pick up Ground packages on December 24. Pickups that day are limited to Air packages, and only when the pickup was arranged by December 18, so Ground has to leave by December 23 at the latest.
  • USPS Ground Advantage: December 17 covers the contiguous US. USPS says packages to or from Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico and the territories can take 10 days or more, so ship those earlier.

What your own order-by date should be

A carrier's date is the day the package must be dropped off or picked up, not the day the customer orders. Your storefront cutoff is that date minus the time it takes you to pack and hand off. If orders placed after your afternoon pickup go out the next business day, an order that needs to ship UPS Next Day Air on Wednesday, December 23 has to be placed by Tuesday, December 22, and your last Priority Mail order has to come in by Thursday, December 17. Weekends count too: the Priority Mail Express date is a Saturday, which only helps if you ship on Saturdays.

Two carrier rules affect the latest dates. UPS says a Next Day Air package shipped on December 23 has to go through On-Call Pickup, Smart Pickup, a prearranged pickup, a UPS Store or a UPS Authorized Service Location rather than a drop box. The Priority Mail Express date is a recommended send-by date like the others, not the service's delivery guarantee. The guarantee still applies in the lower 48, with one holiday exception: a 1-Day Express package mailed December 22 through 25 is not refunded if it arrives within two business days.

After the ground dates pass

Once a ground date goes by, the only way to make Christmas with that carrier is a faster service: Priority Mail Express by December 19, the UPS and FedEx 2-day services by December 22, overnight by December 23 and FedEx SameDay on December 24. What each carrier does on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and the days after is on the UPS holiday schedule, the FedEx holiday schedule and when USPS does not deliver.

If the whole fourth quarter is the question rather than one week in December, the peak season 3PL fulfillment guide covers the planning side. Simpl Fulfillment ships orders from its Austin, Texas warehouse with UPS, USPS and FedEx, and orders received before 12pm CT ship the same day.

Quick answers

What is the last day to mail packages with FedEx for Christmas 2026? For arrival by December 24, 2026, FedEx's last days are December 15 for Ground Economy, December 21 for Express Saver, December 22 for 2Day, December 23 for First, Priority and Standard Overnight and December 24 for SameDay. FedEx Ground and Home Delivery fall between December 17 and December 23 depending on transit days to the destination.

Does UPS have a last day to ship Ground for Christmas? No. UPS publishes Christmas ship-by dates only for its Air services (December 21 for 3 Day Select, December 22 for 2nd Day Air and December 23 for Next Day Air) and points Ground shippers to its time-in-transit calculator, because Ground transit depends on the origin and destination.

Is the last day to ship the order date or the drop-off date? The drop-off date. Each carrier's date is the day the package must be picked up or dropped off, so a store's order cutoff has to be earlier by however long it takes to pack the order and hand it to the carrier.
