UPS Express Box Sizes and Free UPS Packaging Rules

The 2026 UPS Tariff says UPS Express envelopes, Paks, boxes and tubes may not be used for UPS Ground, UPS Standard, UPS 3 Day Select or UPS Worldwide Expedited (checked October 8, 2026). A UPS Ground order can't go out in an Express Pak or Express Box. The supplies cost nothing to order, but under UPS's Customer Supplies Policy as of 11.2025, ongoing eligibility for free supplies depends on your shipping activity and supplies usage (checked October 8, 2026).

Which UPS services can use Express packaging

Section 9 of the UPS Tariff/Terms and Conditions of Service – United States, effective April 17, 2026 reads: "UPS Express® Envelopes, UPS Express® Pak, UPS Express® Boxes, UPS Express® Tubes, UPS 10 KG Box and UPS 25 KG Box packaging may not be used for UPS® Ground, UPS® Standard, UPS 3 Day Select®, or UPS Worldwide Expedited® Shipments" (checked October 8, 2026).

UPS lists UPS Ground under budget-friendly shipping and UPS 3 Day Select under accelerated shipping, alongside 2nd Day Air, on its shipping services page (checked October 8, 2026).

If your orders go out on Ground or 3 Day Select, they can't use UPS Express envelopes, Paks, boxes or tubes. UPS Express box sizes and the services each one is for

Sizes, codes and services in this table come from UPS's WorldShip package type codes page (checked October 8, 2026). That page also lists Worldwide Expedited for the UPS Pak, but the 2026 UPS Tariff bars the Express Pak from Worldwide Expedited, so it is left out of the Pak row (checked October 8, 2026).

UPS's order supplies page says box, envelope and tube dimensions are listed once you log in, so check there for current items before you order (checked October 8, 2026).

UPS advises against Paks and Pad Paks for breakable items

The 2026 UPS Tariff, section 8, says UPS's packaging guidelines "advise against the use of UPS Express® Envelopes, UPS Express® Pak, or UPS Express® Pad Paks to ship sensitive personal information or breakable items" (checked October 8, 2026). The same section makes the shipper responsible for making sure contents are "adequately and securely packed in a container, wrapped, and cushioned for transportation" (checked October 8, 2026), so a breakable item belongs in a cushioned box, not a Pak.

How to order UPS supplies and what limits apply

• You need a UPS.com username to place supply orders on UPS.com, per UPS's order supplies page (checked October 8, 2026).
• Under the 11.2025 policy, new customers get an initial allocation of free supplies, and after that, eligibility depends on shipping activity and supplies usage (checked October 8, 2026).
• The 11.2025 policy sets three access levels: Full Access to all supplies on UPS.com, Limited Access that excludes supplies meant only for UPS Express shipments, and No Access (checked October 8, 2026).
• UPS's order supplies page says item quantity per order may be limited and that what you can reorder is based on your recent shipping volume (checked October 8, 2026).
• Orders typically arrive within a few business days, according to UPS's supplies page (checked October 8, 2026).

If your access is restricted, the policy directs you to UPS Customer Service or your Account Executive (checked October 8, 2026). Once you've picked a box, you can estimate the shipping cost before you buy a label.
