The short answer Portless is a fulfillment company that ships orders straight from its warehouses in China to your customers by air, instead of storing your stock in the country where you sell. Its homepage says it is built for brands shipping at least 1,000 orders a month, with lightweight products made in Asia, that sell internationally or want to.
Portless also says when it is not the right fit. In the FAQ on its Portless vs ShipBob page , it says a US-warehouse 3PL is the better choice when 90% or more of your volume is US domestic, when Amazon is a major channel, or when your products are heavy, bulky or sensitive (it names pet food, frying pans and supplements).
So if most of your customers are in the US, Portless's own guidance points you to a US warehouse. If you make lightweight products in Asia and sell into many countries, it is worth a demo. Portless does not publish prices: its pricing page returned a 404 when we checked on October 9, 2026, so you will need to request a demo for a quote.
A note on who wrote this. Simpl Fulfillment is a US 3PL in Austin, Texas, and one of the alternatives on this page. Every Portless detail below comes from Portless's own site as checked on October 9, 2026, and is linked so you can check it yourself.
How Portless works Portless calls its model "direct fulfillment." Your factory sends finished stock to a Portless warehouse in China, and Portless ships each order from there by air to the customer. According to its homepage , it runs both bonded and non-bonded facilities, handles customs, and hands parcels to local carriers in each destination so the tracking looks local to your customer.
The same page lists native integrations with Shopify and WooCommerce, with other setups connected through Pipe17. Portless also sells add-ons such as factory pickup, product sourcing, quality control and branded packaging.
For delivery, the ShipBob comparison FAQ says "5 to 8 days to the door on express," and that orders placed before 16:00 China time ship the same day. That is Portless's published figure; we have not tested it. The country count differs by page: the homepage says 85+ countries, while the ShipBob comparison page says 78 in one answer and 80+ in another.
For transit from China more generally, see our support article on how long it takes to ship from China .
What changed when de minimis ended De minimis was the rule that let a US shipment worth $800 or less enter duty-free. According to CBP's fact sheet , from August 29, 2025, goods from all countries valued at or below $800 no longer qualify and owe all applicable duties, taxes and fees. On June 24, 2026, CBP announced regulations that "indefinitely suspend" duty-free de minimis treatment.
That change hits both ways of getting product to US customers, just at different moments.
Duty per parcel vs duty on a bulk shipment Shipping direct from China (the Portless model): duty is paid order by order, after the customer has bought. Portless's duty-timing article argues this is the advantage: you only pay duty on units that have sold, so less cash sits in unsold stock.Importing in bulk to a US warehouse: you, or your freight forwarder or customs broker, pay duty when the shipment enters the US, before the goods sell. After that, every order is a domestic shipment from the US warehouse.Portless's case is about cash timing, and it carries real weight if cash is your tightest constraint. Its ShipBob comparison page says most brands go from a cash conversion cycle of about 90 days to about 6 weeks on Portless. That figure is Portless's. The trade-off is that every order becomes an international parcel, with its own customs entry and air transit, rather than a domestic one.
The duty rate itself depends on your product's HTS code and country of origin, and rates can change, so we do not estimate it here. Run your numbers with a licensed customs broker before you pick a model. Portless's tariff guide , last updated May 2026, says "these changes do not impact Portless's shipping model."
For more on tariffs, see our guide to IEEPA tariff refunds . If you sell into Europe, our guide to the EU de minimis changes covers that side.

The speed rows do not measure the same thing. Portless's figure is door to door from China. Simpl's is a same-day ship cutoff, and US delivery time after that depends on the UPS, USPS or FedEx service the order ships with. We are not claiming either one is a set number of days faster.
Alternatives to Portless A US 3PL, if most of your customers are in the US This is the setup Portless itself recommends when 90% or more of your volume is US domestic. You import inventory in bulk, by sea or air, through your forwarder or customs broker. The 3PL receives it into a US warehouse and ships each order domestically.
At Simpl, receiving takes 1 to 3 days and onboarding takes 5 to 7 days, with no onboarding fee. Pricing starts at $7/order. There is a $750 monthly minimum, billed pay-the-difference: if a month's orders bill less than $750, you pay only the gap. That works out to about 100 shipments a month at the lightest weight, so factor it in if you ship fewer orders than that today. Simpl connects to the store platforms and marketplaces in the table above, including Amazon. If you sell outside the US too, we explain how international sellers use a US 3PL .
With a US 3PL, the import side stays with you and your forwarder or customs broker; Simpl's part starts when the goods arrive in Austin. If you want one company to run everything from the factory to the customer's door, that is a point in Portless's favor.
ShipBob, the comparison Portless draws Portless's comparison page is built around ShipBob, which it describes as "built for selling into the United States." If ShipBob is on your list too, see our Simpl vs ShipBob comparison , our ShipBob review , and our list of ShipBob alternatives .

Which should you pick? Portless is worth a demo if you make lightweight products in Asia, a real share of your orders go outside the US, and you are near the 1,000+ orders a month Portless says it is built for.A US 3PL is the better fit if most of your orders ship within the US, Amazon is a big channel, or your product is heavy, bulky or sensitive. That list is Portless's, not ours.Either way, check duty with a customs broker first. The end of de minimis changed when and how you pay. It did not change the fact that your product's classification and origin set the rate. What reviewers say about Portless Portless has a Trustpilot profile , and there are threads about it on Reddit and Facebook. We could not load Trustpilot when we checked on October 9, 2026, so we are not quoting a rating or review count. Read it there directly.
When you do, sort by newest, look for reviews from brands that ship mostly to the US, and note how often delays or customs holds come up and how Portless replies. The customer stories on Portless's own site are testimonials it chose to publish, so weigh them as marketing, not as independent reviews.
See what Simpl would cost you If most of your customers are in the US, compare your current per-order cost with Simpl's published pricing : starting at $7/order, a $750 monthly minimum billed pay-the-difference, and same-day shipping on orders received before 12pm CT.
FAQs Is Portless worth it compared to ShipBob for a small brand? It depends mostly on where your customers are. Portless says it is built for brands shipping at least 1,000 orders a month, with lightweight products made in Asia, that sell internationally or want to (https://www.portless.com/, checked October 9, 2026). Its own ShipBob comparison says a US-warehouse 3PL like ShipBob is the better choice when 90% or more of your volume is US domestic, when Amazon is a major channel, or when your products are heavy, bulky or sensitive (https://www.portless.com/portless-vs-shipbob, checked October 9, 2026). If most of your orders ship within the US, compare US 3PLs first.
How much does Portless cost? Portless does not publish its prices. Its pricing page returned a 404 when we checked on October 9, 2026 (https://www.portless.com/pricing), and its site points brands to a demo request instead. When you get a quote, compare it per order, with duty included, against a US 3PL's published rates.
How long does Portless take to deliver? Portless says express orders take 5 to 8 days to the door, and that orders placed before 16:00 China time ship the same day (https://www.portless.com/portless-vs-shipbob, checked October 9, 2026). Those are Portless's published figures; we have not tested them.
Does the end of de minimis affect Portless? Duty now applies to each parcel Portless ships into the US. According to CBP, since August 29, 2025, imports from any country valued at $800 or less no longer enter duty-free (https://www.cbp.gov/sites/default/files/2025-08/factsheet_suspension_of_duty-free_de_minimis_treatment.pdf), and on June 24, 2026, CBP announced regulations that suspend that exemption indefinitely (https://www.cbp.gov/newsroom/national-media-release/cbp-modernizes-low-value-shipment-processing). Portless says these changes do not impact its shipping model (https://www.portless.com/blogs/where-do-us-tariffs-stand-now-your-guide-to-de-minimis-postal-changes-and-the-latest-import-rules, checked October 9, 2026). It argues that paying duty per order, after the sale, is easier on cash than paying it upfront on bulk stock (https://www.portless.com/blogs/duty-timing-vs-duty-rates, checked October 9, 2026). Check your actual duty rate with a licensed customs broker.
