A 3PL charges an eBay seller in one of two shapes. Unbundled providers quote a per-order pick fee, then add postage, storage, receiving, and often a setup fee on top. Bundled providers quote one per-order rate with the picks, packaging, and postage already inside it. That is why the $2.25 pick fee the AI summary quotes for an eBay 3PL and Simpl's flat rate starting at $7 per order are not comparable: one is a single line item, the other is an all-in per-order price.
The bigger risk is the switch itself. A late or wrong shipment during the changeover counts against your seller rating like any other, so move in stages. Run test orders through the full path first, then your top sellers, and transfer the rest once the numbers hold.
What a 3PL costs per eBay order
Search for the cost of an eBay 3PL and the AI summary at the top of the results quotes a pick fee of around $2.25 plus shipping, lifted from a Reddit thread. That figure describes a pick fee, and a pick fee is not the price of an order.
Unbundled pricing charges for each piece of the work separately. A per-order pick-and-pack fee is the number most providers quote first, and postage, storage, receiving, packaging, and often a setup fee sit on top of it. The Fulfillment Advisor's 2026 survey of 500 warehousing and fulfillment providers put the average pick-and-pack charge for a one-item direct-to-consumer order at $3.21, made up of a $2.73 base order charge plus $0.48 for the item. The same survey reported average pallet storage of $19.37 per pallet per month, receiving at $2.25 per carton, a one-time setup fee at 55% of providers averaging $373.06, and an average monthly minimum of $752.08. Postage is separate from all of those, and the survey does not say whether packaging is included, so ask each provider directly. Under this model the pick fee is one line among several, and postage sits on top of all of them.
Bundled pricing rolls the per-order work into one rate. Simpl's flat-rate pricing starts at $7 per order and that rate covers 3 picks, pick-and-pack, packaging, and postage by UPS, USPS, or FedEx. Storage is billed separately by the space you use, whether that is a small bin, large bin, shelf, or pallet. Accounts carry a $750 monthly minimum, billed pay-the-difference: if a month's fulfillment fees come in under $750 you are charged only the gap, and above it the minimum never applies.
So when you compare a $2.25 pick fee with a $7 bundled rate, you are comparing one line item against a whole order. To put them on the same footing, take the unbundled provider's pick-and-pack fee, add your postage for a typical order, then add your share of storage and receiving, and only then set the total against the flat rate. Do the sum on your real order mix, because a heavier or multi-item order moves both numbers.
Fulfillment is only half of your per-order margin. eBay's final value fee comes off the top before any of this, and Simpl's guide to whether eBay takes a cut covers that side.
Why eBay sellers use a 3PL
Overselling. Once you run hundreds of listings, hand counts drift, and a listing that sells stock you no longer have ends in a cancellation. On eBay that risks a defect and a lower seller rating. A 3PL counts stock at the unit level and syncs it back to the listing, so eBay shows what is on the shelf.
Selling on more than one channel. If eBay sits alongside Amazon, Walmart, or a Shopify store, separate stock piles per channel mean one channel oversells while another sits on inventory. A multi-channel 3PL holds a single pool and ships whichever channel the order came from, so a sale anywhere updates eBay's count.
Postage and space bought at retail. Labels bought one at a time are retail rates, and a lease costs the same whether you ship 50 orders or 500 that month. A 3PL ships enough volume to negotiate carrier discounts, and under a bundled rate that postage is already inside the per-order price, while storage is billed on the space you use.
Does eBay have its own fulfillment centers?
No. eBay does not run a warehouse network in the United States the way Amazon does with FBA, and it has tried twice.
In July 2019 eBay announced Managed Delivery, an end-to-end fulfillment service that was due to launch in the US in 2020, with third-party partners running the warehouses on eBay's technology platform. It never launched. By February 2020 trade reports said the program had been quietly ended the previous December, and the Managed Delivery page on eBay.com no longer exists.
The second attempt was eBay Fulfilment by Orange Connex, run by Orange Connex, a logistics firm. It launched for UK sellers in July 2021 with fulfillment centers in Leicester and Birmingham, and Orange Connex also operates eBay fulfillment in Germany, Australia and China. At eBay Connect in 2022 the company told US sellers the service was coming soon. As of September 2026 it has not appeared in the US Seller Center, and eBay's US shipping hub lists carrier labels, freight and eBay International Shipping, with no fulfillment or warehousing program.
eBay International Shipping is often mistaken for fulfillment. It is a forwarding program: you ship the sold item to eBay's domestic hub, and eBay handles the international leg and customs. Your inventory still sits with you or your 3PL.
So a US eBay seller today has two options for fulfillment: pack orders yourself, or use a third-party provider. eBay's policy is fine with a 3PL as long as you have an agreement with the provider and you remain the seller of record on packing slips and invoices.
eBay 3PL options compared
Sellers usually weigh a handful of providers. Here is how the common options line up for an eBay-first or eBay-heavy seller. One naming note: ShipHero's own fulfillment network now operates as LVK, and ShipHero itself sells the warehouse software that LVK runs on.
Provider | Pricing model | eBay integration | Minimum | Fulfillment speed | Returns handling |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Simpl Fulfillment | Flat rate starting at $7/order. Includes 3 picks, pick-and-pack, packaging, and postage by UPS, USPS, or FedEx. Storage billed separately by small bin, large bin, shelf, or pallet. | eBay is a supported marketplace: order import and real-time inventory sync. | $750/month account minimum, billed pay-the-difference. Fit range 50 to 5,000+ orders/month. | Same-day on orders received before 12pm CT. | Branded returns portal included for all clients. |
LVK (ShipHero's 3PL network) | Custom quote. Flat per-shipment rate includes one pick, extra picks billed per pick. Storage billed on the space used each day. No setup or onboarding charge. | eBay listed among its marketplace integrations. | Not published. | Standard or expedited carrier speed. No published cutoff. | Handles returns. Fees not published. |
ShipBob | Custom quote. Per-package fulfillment fee includes shipping, order processing, and a set number of picks. Extra picks $0.35 per unit. Storage $5 per bin, $10 per shelf, $40 per pallet per month, prorated daily. Receiving $40 for the first 2 hours, then $45 per hour. | eBay integration with a published setup guide. | Not published. | 2-Day Express program covering the contiguous US. | $1.70 per return order plus $0.90 per unit, charged when the return arrives. |
Amazon MCF | Per-unit fee by size tier and units per order, covering pick, pack, and ship. A one-unit small standard order of 4 oz or less is $7.34 at Standard speed on the rate card dated June 1, 2026, plus a 3.5% fuel and logistics surcharge. Storage at FBA rates: $0.78 per cubic foot January to September and $2.40 October to December for standard-size items. | No native eBay app. Amazon's own connector is a Shopify app, so eBay orders route through third-party apps. | None published, but stock sits inside FBA. | Standard is 3 business days and Expedited is 2, click to delivery. Unbranded packaging by default at no extra fee. | Buyer returns to an Amazon fulfillment center with an RMA. Return postage is not provided, and return processing fees apply. |
Competitor details reflect each provider's publicly published pricing and integration pages as of September 16, 2026, and can change, so confirm current terms with each provider before you decide.
What to look for in an eBay 3PL
eBay integration depth. Orders should import on their own within minutes of a sale, inventory should sync back before you oversell, and tracking numbers should upload to eBay without you touching them. Ask whether eBay is a supported channel or a workaround through a third-party app before you sign. Simpl's eBay integration page shows what the supported version looks like.
Returns handling. Returns affect your eBay metrics directly, so the speed at which a 3PL receives, inspects, and restocks a return sets how fast you can refund and relist. A branded returns portal keeps the buyer's experience yours rather than the warehouse's.
Minimums, and which kind. Some 3PLs take only brands above an order count; others set a dollar floor per month. Ask which applies and how it is billed. With a pay-the-difference floor, a slow month costs you the gap rather than the whole minimum.
Onboarding. Moving stock and switching live listings is where seller metrics get dented. Ask how long the transfer takes, who runs it, whether there is an onboarding fee, and what protects your metrics while it happens. The survey above found that more than half of providers charge a one-time setup fee.
Pricing you can read. Per-pick fees, storage tiers, receiving charges, and surcharges add up in ways that are hard to forecast against an eBay margin the final value fee has already trimmed. A bundled per-order rate is easier to set against that margin. Whichever shape you choose, get the full fee schedule in writing before the first pallet ships.
Making the switch without hurting your metrics
The riskiest part of moving to a 3PL is the handoff. Your eBay seller rating depends on shipping on time and shipping accurately, so a sloppy transition can cost you more than it saves. A clean switch usually runs like this.
Connect the 3PL to eBay and set your shipping rules, then send a small batch of inventory and run test orders through the full path: order import, pick, pack, ship, and tracking upload. Confirm returns route correctly too. Once the test orders check out, move your best-selling items first and watch the first 50 to 100 live orders closely. Keep a small safety stock of your top sellers on hand during the changeover so a delayed inventory transfer never leaves a listing unfulfilled. When the metrics hold steady, transfer the rest and switch your remaining listings to 3PL fulfillment.
Good providers assign someone to manage this with you instead of handing you a login and wishing you luck. Ask who owns the transfer before you commit. Simpl's how we work page walks through the onboarding sequence step by step.
What Simpl offers eBay sellers
Simpl Fulfillment is a flat-rate 3PL. Ecommerce order fulfillment starts at $7 per order and includes 3 picks, pick-and-pack, packaging, and postage, with a $750 monthly minimum billed pay-the-difference, so you can forecast fulfillment cost against your eBay margins instead of decoding a line-item invoice. Orders received before 12pm CT ship the same day. eBay is a supported marketplace, so orders import and inventory syncs in real time across your channels. Every client gets a branded returns portal and a dedicated account manager, a real person reachable by email with same-day responses. Order accuracy runs 99.99%, and when an error does happen, Simpl covers the return shipping and re-fulfillment. Onboarding takes 5 to 7 days with no onboarding fee, and Simpl serves brands shipping anywhere from 50 to 5,000+ orders a month.
