A 3PL for Amazon sellers handles warehousing, FBA prep, FBM order fulfillment, and the shipping performance Seller-Fulfilled Prime (SFP) demands. Unlike Amazon's own Multi-Channel Fulfillment (MCF), a third-party logistics provider gives sellers control over branding, returns, and inventory across every channel they sell on.
Most sellers start with FBA because it's easy. Then the limits show up: restock caps during your best months, long-term storage surcharges on inventory that moves slowly, commingled units, and returns you never see. Some products FBA won't take at all. At that point you need fulfillment you control, for Amazon and for everywhere else you sell. A 3PL covers three jobs Amazon sellers actually run into: FBA prep and overflow, FBM order fulfillment, and the fulfillment foundation behind SFP.
FBA Prep and Overflow FBA prep is the work of getting inventory ready to meet Amazon's inbound requirements before it ships to a fulfillment center: FNSKU labeling, poly bagging, bundling, carton counts, and Amazon's packaging guidelines. Get any of it wrong and Amazon bills prep fees or refuses the shipment at the dock.
A 3PL handles prep at volume. It receives your bulk inventory, labels each unit with the right FNSKU, poly-bags and bundles to spec, counts and palletizes cartons, and sends compliant shipments into FBA on your schedule instead of Amazon's.
Overflow is the other half. Restock limits and aged-inventory surcharges mean you can't keep everything sitting at Amazon. Hold backup inventory at a 3PL and replenish FBA just in time. You skip the long-term storage fees and you don't run out of stock when Amazon caps your restock during peak.
Prep often goes past labeling. Multi-SKU bundles, retail multi-packs, and kitted sets get built to spec before they ship in. While overflow inventory waits, it's stored by bin, shelf, or pallet, so you pay for the space you actually use.
Amazon FBA Prep is one of Simpl Fulfillment's core services. Receiving runs 1–3 days and onboarding takes 5–7 days, so your inventory starts working instead of waiting in a queue. See our FBA prep services for what's included.
Fulfilled by Merchant (FBM) FBM (Fulfilled by Merchant) means you list on Amazon but ship the orders yourself instead of routing them through FBA. Sellers run FBM for oversized or slow-moving SKUs, to avoid FBA storage fees, or to keep control of packaging and the unboxing.
The trade-off is that you now own Amazon's shipping and tracking metrics on every order. Hit them by hand and it eats your week. Miss them and your account health drops.
Amazon grades FBM on late shipment rate, valid tracking rate, on-time delivery, and order cancellation rate. Slip on any of them and your listings lose visibility.
This is where a 3PL becomes your FBM backbone. Connect your Amazon store and orders flow straight to the warehouse to be picked, packed, and shipped, the same way we handle your other channels.
Simpl integrates with Amazon alongside Shopify, Shopify Plus, BigCommerce, WooCommerce, and Squarespace, plus an open API for anything custom. Orders received before 12pm CT ship the same day, at 99.99% order accuracy with any errors corrected at our cost. Every shipment moves on UPS, USPS, or FedEx with real-time tracking that keeps your Amazon metrics clean. See how FBM fulfillment works.
Seller-Fulfilled Prime (SFP) Seller-Fulfilled Prime lets you show the Prime badge on FBM listings while shipping from your own warehouse or your 3PL's. To qualify and keep it, Amazon holds you to strict standards: fast delivery to the customer, a high on-time shipment rate, a low cancellation rate, and broad delivery coverage, all tracked continuously. Miss the metrics and Amazon pulls the badge.
Amazon also expects nationwide delivery coverage. A partner shipping on UPS, USPS, and FedEx reaches all 50 states, which is what keeps the badge in place.
So SFP is a fulfillment problem before it's an Amazon problem. The badge rewards sellers who ship fast, ship on time, and almost never cancel. That comes down to how your warehouse runs, not how well you fill out a form.
A 3PL that already ships same-day, ships accurately, and moves orders on the major national carriers gives you the operational base those metrics demand. At Simpl, orders in by 12pm CT ship the same day, accuracy runs 99.99% with errors fixed at our cost, and every order ships on UPS, USPS, or FedEx. Those are the fulfillment fundamentals SFP runs on. If you're weighing SFP for your listings, talk to us about whether it fits your catalog and volume.
What to look for in a 3PL for Amazon sellers Not every 3PL is built for Amazon. Before you sign, check for:
Amazon integration. A direct connection to Seller Central so FBM and multi-channel orders flow in automatically, not through a spreadsheet.Real FBA prep experience. FNSKU labeling, poly bagging, and carton compliance done right the first time, not learned on your inventory.Same-day shipping with a clear cutoff. Speed is what protects your Amazon metrics, so the cutoff time matters as much as the promise. An accuracy rate they stand behind. Ask what happens when they ship the wrong item: who pays to fix it.Account management you can reach. A person who knows your account beats a ticket queue every time.Transparent pricing and terms. Know the per-order rate, any monthly minimum, and the agreement before you commit. Why Amazon sellers choose Simpl Simpl Fulfillment is a boutique 3PL, which shows up first in how you're treated. Every client gets a named account manager, a real person reachable by email with same-day (often faster) responses. No ticket queue, no guessing who handles your account.
Pricing is easy to model. It starts at $7/order with picks, packaging, and postage included, and a $750/month minimum billed pay-the-difference, so you're charged only the gap if a month comes in under $750.
The integrations cover where Amazon sellers actually operate: Amazon, Shopify, Shopify Plus, BigCommerce, WooCommerce, Squarespace, and an open API. Orders ship to all 50 states and 200+ countries.
Most Amazon sellers don't sell only on Amazon. The same warehouse and inventory pool handle your Shopify orders, B2B wholesale shipments, subscription boxes, kitting and assembly, and returns, so you're not splitting stock across providers or reconciling three dashboards.
