Shipfusion Review: Pricing, Minimums and Who It Fits

Shipfusion is a well-reviewed 3PL built for brands shipping around 2,000 orders a month and up. Here's what its quotes cover, what its published rates don't tell a smaller brand, and where to look if you're under the line.

The short version

  • A good fit if you ship around 2,000 or more orders a month, sell small, light products, and especially if you're in supplements, beauty, food or another regulated category that needs lot tracking or temperature-controlled storage.
  • Probably not a fit if you ship well under 2,000 orders a month, sell heavy or bulky goods, or want a short-term or seasonal arrangement. Shipfusion says so on its own site.
  • Reputation: positive, with a clean BBB record, though the independent review sample is small and much of it is several years old.
  • Pricing: custom quotes only. The sample rates Shipfusion publishes come from brands shipping 3,500 to 35,000 orders a month, and they're pick fees, not a full cost per order.

What is Shipfusion's minimum?

Shipfusion's pricing page FAQ says it typically works with brands shipping 2,000+ orders a month, and invites smaller brands with plans to scale to get in touch. Its Shopify fulfillment page is blunter. Its "not for" list says Shipfusion is probably not the right fit if you "ship fewer than 2,000 orders per month and aren't yet ready for a dedicated 3PL relationship." The homepage and the quote request page use the same 2,000 line.

"Typically" matters. This is published fit guidance, and Shipfusion doesn't publish a contractual or dollar minimum. Whether your own contract carries a minimum or a volume commitment is something to confirm in the quote. A brand under 2,000 orders can still ask for a quote, but Shipfusion's own pages make clear it isn't who they build the service around.

You may see a lower number elsewhere. A separate Shipfusion landing page that's still online asks brands that ship at least 1,000 orders a month to request a quote, and cites 783,000 sq. ft. of warehouse space against the 1M+ sq ft on the main site. Shipfusion's pricing, Shopify and quote pages all use 2,000, so treat that as the line to plan around.

How Shipfusion pricing works

Shipfusion doesn't publish a rate card. Its pricing page says each quote is built around how your business runs, and lists what goes into it:

  • Pick and pack: a base rate for the first item picked in an order and a lower rate for each additional item. Inserts, the number of active SKUs, packaging type and cold-chain packaging all change the price.
  • Receiving: priced by how inventory arrives. Single-SKU pallets cost least; single-SKU cartons may need more handling.
  • Storage: billed by the pallet locations you use. Temperature-controlled storage may add a monthly fee per pallet location. Shipfusion says it doesn't charge extra for pick bins or shelving.
  • Returns: a rate for the first item in a return and a reduced rate for each additional item.
  • Projects: work outside normal order fulfillment, such as kitting, subscription box assembly and FBA prep. Lot tracking comes in two tiers with no published prices.

Shipfusion's pages don't spell out which of these a quoted rate bundles, so ask for the written quote to show how postage, packaging, storage, receiving, returns and any project work are charged. Account management costs nothing extra: Shipfusion's account manager page says there is no additional cost for a dedicated account manager.

What the published sample rates do and don't tell you

Shipfusion's quote request page lists four recent quotes:

Brand, as listed

Monthly orders

First pick

Each additional pick

Supplement company

3,500 to 4,500

$1.52

$0.28

Personal care brand

5,000 to 6,500

$1.37

$0.24

DTC book company

18,000 to 24,000

$1.38

$0.24

Hair care brand

25,000 to 35,000

$1.36

$0.23

Shipfusion labels these as pick fees, and on their own they don't give you a full price per shipped order. Check in your written quote how postage, packaging, storage, receiving and returns are charged, and which currency the quote is in. And the smallest band starts at 3,500 orders a month.

That's why a monthly cost built from these numbers misleads a small brand. Multiplying $1.52 by 500 orders gives you a pick-fee total, not a shipped-order cost, borrows a rate quoted to a brand at least seven times larger, and describes a brand Shipfusion says probably isn't its fit.

The number worth comparing is total cost per shipped order: pick fees, packaging, postage at your real weights and destinations, storage and receiving, divided by your monthly orders. Ask every 3PL you're quoting, Shipfusion included, for that figure at your actual volume.

Contract terms and onboarding

Shipfusion doesn't publish its contract terms. Its terms of use say your right to cancel depends on the termination clause in your service contract, and its Shopify page says it isn't a fit for "a short-term or seasonal fulfilment arrangement with no ongoing volume commitment." So expect a service contract with ongoing volume. Before you sign, ask for the term length, the notice period to leave, and whether there's a volume commitment and what happens if you fall short of it.

Onboarding is hands-on. Shipfusion's tech team builds the Shopify integration during onboarding instead of having you install an app. Shipfusion says setup typically takes a few days, and once you're live, orders import every five minutes. Every client is assigned a dedicated account manager who works on-site at a Shipfusion facility. Its Shopify App Store listing has no reviews, so look elsewhere for customer feedback.

What customers say

  • Trustpilot: a 4.7 TrustScore from 34 reviews, 85% of them five-star and one one-star. Only four were posted in the last 12 months, and most cluster on a few days in June and August 2021. Trustpilot itself notes that Shipfusion hasn't invited customers recently, so the reviews may not be representative. Criticism in the visible reviews is mild: a 2021 reviewer said wrong items sometimes went out and that Shipfusion re-shipped the right ones for free, and another raised concerns about transit times to some regions. Recent reviews praise communication and account managers.
  • BBB: an A+ rating, accredited since 2017, and zero complaints in the last three years.
  • Shipfusion's own figures: a 4.7-star rating across Capterra, Trustpilot and G2, a 97.9% client retention rate and 99.9% of orders shipped on time.

The picture is positive; the main caveat is the size and age of the sample. For most brands weighing Shipfusion, the deciding questions are likely to be fit and total cost.

Where Shipfusion is strong

  • Regulated products. Shipfusion says its fulfillment centers are SQF certified and follow GMP and HACCP standards, and it offers lot tracking and temperature-controlled storage. If your product needs a specific registration or approval, ask which facility holds it. Supplement, food and beverage, and cosmetics brands that need that are squarely who it's built for.
  • Coverage from four warehouses. Chicago (Carol Stream), Las Vegas, York, PA and Toronto, with Dallas listed as coming soon. Shipfusion says the network reaches 95% of US and Canadian customers in one to two days by ground.
  • Retail and B2B. EDI and retailer routing compliance run alongside direct-to-consumer orders.
  • Account management. An on-site account manager from day one, at no extra charge.

Where it isn't built to fit

  • Brands well under 2,000 orders a month. Its own pages say so.
  • Heavy or bulky goods. Shipfusion says its warehouses aren't optimized for large, bulky or heavy items such as furniture, bikes, watercraft or appliances.
  • Short-term or seasonal arrangements with no ongoing volume.
  • Buyers who want the lowest rate above all else. That's on Shipfusion's "not for" list too.

Where to look

Under 2,000 orders a month, on Shopify

Compare published thresholds in our 3PL minimums comparison, then see our ShipBob review and Shopify 3PL roundup.

Heavy or bulky products

Red Stag specializes in them. Simpl also accepts heavy and oversized goods.

Cold-chain or food-grade storage

Shipfusion is a strong fit here. Simpl isn't: our warehouse is ambient-only and not FDA-registered as a food facility. Our health and wellness 3PL guide covers other options.

A few dozen orders a month

Packing orders yourself a while longer is often the honest answer. How 3PL minimums work explains why.

Where Simpl fits

We're a 3PL too, so weigh this section with that in mind. Simpl ships for brands below Shipfusion's line from one warehouse in Austin, TX. Fulfillment is priced starting at $7/order, a per-order rate that includes up to three picks, packing, packaging and postage; carrier surcharges are billed per our terms. Standard ecommerce fulfillment accounts have a $750 monthly minimum, billed pay-the-difference: if a month's order billing comes in under $750, we bill the shortfall so order billing reaches $750; storage is billed separately. That's roughly 90 to 100 orders a month for light packages on standard shipping. Contracts run a 3-month term that renews automatically, with 60 days' notice before the end of the term and an exclusive-provider clause. Onboarding takes 5 to 7 days with no onboarding fee, and every client gets a dedicated account manager reachable by email, with same-day responses.

One warehouse means we can't match Shipfusion's coast-to-coast coverage, and we're not the choice for refrigerated or food-grade storage. If neither matters for your products, see our pricing or how our ecommerce fulfillment works.

FAQs

What is Shipfusion's minimum order volume?

Shipfusion's pricing page says it typically works with brands shipping 2,000 or more orders a month, and invites smaller brands with plans to scale to get in touch. It's a typical fit line, not a published contractual or dollar minimum. Confirm any minimum or volume commitment in your quote. A separate Shipfusion landing page still mentions 1,000 orders, but its pricing, Shopify and quote pages say 2,000.

How much does Shipfusion cost?

Shipfusion quotes every brand individually and doesn't publish a rate card. Its published sample quotes show first-pick fees of $1.36 to $1.52 and additional-pick fees of $0.23 to $0.28, but those are pick fees quoted to brands shipping 3,500 to 35,000 orders a month, not a full cost per shipped order. Ask for a written quote at your own volume that shows how postage, packaging, storage, receiving and returns are charged.

Is Shipfusion a good 3PL for a small Shopify brand?

It depends on size. Shipfusion's Shopify page says it's probably not the right fit for brands shipping fewer than 2,000 orders a month that aren't ready for a dedicated 3PL relationship. Above that line, and especially for regulated products like supplements or food, it's a strong option with a hands-on Shopify integration and an on-site account manager.

Does Shipfusion require a contract?

Shipfusion doesn't publish its contract terms. Its terms of use say cancellation depends on the termination clause in your service contract, and its Shopify page says it isn't a fit for short-term or seasonal arrangements with no ongoing volume commitment. Ask for the term length, notice period and any volume commitment in writing before you sign.

Does Shipfusion handle heavy or oversized products?

Not as a specialty. Shipfusion's pricing FAQ says it specializes in small, lightweight items and that its warehouses aren't optimized for large, bulky or heavy items such as furniture, bikes or appliances. Brands with heavy goods should look at 3PLs that accept them.

Where are Shipfusion's warehouses?

Shipfusion's locations page lists fulfillment centers in Chicago (Carol Stream), Illinois; Las Vegas, Nevada; York, Pennsylvania; and Toronto (Mississauga), Ontario, with Dallas, Texas listed as coming soon. Shipfusion says the network reaches 95% of US and Canadian customers in one to two days by ground.
