ShipBots is a fulfillment company based in Gardena, California, near the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach. It publishes its starting order rate and storage fees, works month to month, and has a strong but small review record. The number that matters most for a small brand is the one it doesn't publish: the monthly maintenance fee. Get that figure, and what the $6.29 starting rate covers, before you compare ShipBots with anyone else.

Storage is billed weekly, which makes it look smaller than a monthly rate. Over a month, $1 a week is about $4.33 per bin and $7.25 a week is about $31.42 per pallet. ShipBots also says each SKU needs its own warehouse location, so storage scales with your SKU count, not just your unit count. A catalog of 40 slow-moving SKUs in bins would run about $173 a month in storage before a single order ships.

What the pricing page leaves out

Three things you need for a real monthly estimate aren't on the page:

  • The monthly maintenance fee. The FAQ says: "We have a monthly maintenance fee that covers premium personal account management and one software connection. This is separate from any storage fees." No amount appears on the pricing page, the FAQ or earlier versions of the pricing page in the Internet Archive.
  • What $6.29 includes. The page doesn't say whether it covers postage, how many items or picks it includes, or which packaging. "As little as" means it is the lowest rate, not the typical one.
  • Receiving. The page mentions receiving photos for new SKUs but no receiving charge, free or otherwise.

Leaving these to the quote doesn't make the price bad, but it does mean the quote is what to compare. When you ask for one, ask for the maintenance fee in dollars, a sample invoice for an order like your typical order (with postage shown separately or included), receiving charges per carton or pallet, and whether extra items in an order cost more.

No volume minimum is not the same as no monthly bill

ShipBots' FAQ says it "works month to month on a Master Service Agreement with no mandatory multi-year lock-in and no volume minimum." Its apparel FAQ adds that it works with "brands shipping 50 orders a month and brands shipping 50,000."

That's a real advantage for a brand with small or uneven volume; some better-known 3PLs publish a minimum monthly spend or say they typically work with larger brands (see the alternatives below). But the maintenance fee is charged monthly whatever your order count, so a slow month still has a floor. Until you know the fee, you can't say how ShipBots' floor compares with a 3PL that publishes a minimum.

The Master Service Agreement itself isn't published, so read it before you sign. Ask for the notice period to leave, any termination charge, payment terms, and how and how fast your inventory is released when you go.

Where ShipBots' own pages disagree

Some of ShipBots' pages carry different figures. Older comparison pages that were never updated are the likely cause, but it's worth knowing which number a sales rep is quoting.

Order accuracy

Homepage and FAQ: 99.999%

Warehouse locations page: 99.95%

The storage gap has a simple explanation. An Internet Archive capture of the pricing page from October 2022 shows $1.25 and $9, and later captures show today's $1 and $7.25. So the comparison page still carries 2022 prices, and the pricing page is the current one. For the cutoff and the accuracy figure, ask for the current answer in writing. Both accuracy figures are ShipBots' own claims, and the homepage's "100% inventory and order accuracy guarantees" and "48-hour dock-to-stock guarantee" don't come with published terms.

What customers report

ShipBots' rating is high, and the sample is small. On Trustpilot it has a TrustScore of 4.7 from 34 reviews, 94% five-star and 6% (two reviews) one-star, and Trustpilot shows this notice on the page: "This company hasn't invited customers recently, so reviews may not be representative."

The Trustpilot reviews are worth reading rather than counting. Most praise responsive, low-pressure reps, and several recent five-star reviews describe a sales call rather than months of fulfillment, including one from a brand ShipBots told was not a fit. A smaller group describes actual service, including a brand that moved over from ShipMonk citing lower rates and hands-on support. The visible one-star review says ShipBots wouldn't provide order information, without further detail.

The fair reading: few independent reviews, almost all positive, with many about the sales and onboarding contact. That is a better record than silence, and thinner than you'd want for a long commitment. ShipBots' month-to-month terms soften that risk. If you can, ask for a reference from a current client at your volume and in your category.

Who ShipBots suits

ShipBots' strongest case is for products that need more than a standard ambient warehouse:

  • Dietary supplements. The FAQ says ShipBots is certified to NSF/ANSI 455-2, the Good Manufacturing Practices standard for dietary supplements, "as an audited distribution facility in Gardena, California," and that it is FDA-registered. It also describes lot and serial tracking for recalls.
  • Temperature-sensitive goods. ShipBots lists a temperature control service.
  • Importers landing goods in Los Angeles. The warehouse page says it is "just minutes from the Long Beach port."
  • Subscription boxes and crowdfunding orders. It sets up an assembly line for batches of identical orders, with a $15 fee for any batch under 50 orders. Other kitting and assembly counts as a special project and is quoted separately.
  • Very low or uneven volume. No volume minimum and month-to-month terms suit a brand testing a 3PL or shipping seasonally.

ShipBots runs on ShipHero software, the same warehouse system we use, so the order and inventory software isn't a point of difference between us. It connects Shopify, BigCommerce, WooCommerce, Amazon, Walmart, eBay and Loop, among others, and says each account gets a dedicated account manager based in the warehouse.

It's a harder fit if you want an all-in price before a sales call, or need to budget against a known monthly floor from day one. Both are answerable with a quote; neither is answerable from the website.

Alternatives by situation

  • You ship under a few hundred orders a month and want a bigger name. Check the floor first. ShipBob's affordable fulfillment page says it has a minimum monthly spend and that you "can start with even just a thousand orders monthly," and Shipfusion says it typically works with brands shipping 2,000+ orders a month. Our 3PL minimums comparison lists published floors side by side, and our ShipBob review covers its fees in detail.
  • You're on Shopify and comparing several 3PLs. Our best 3PL for Shopify and best 3PL companies breakdowns compare pricing models and fit.
  • You want one per-order price with postage included and a known monthly floor. That's how Simpl Fulfillment prices. Fulfillment starts at $7 an order, a flat per-order rate that includes picks, packing, postage and packaging; carrier surcharges, when they apply, are billed per our terms. Standard ecommerce fulfillment accounts have a $750 monthly minimum, billed pay-the-difference: if a month's order billing comes in under $750, we bill the shortfall so order billing reaches $750. Because postage is inside that rate, the $750 isn't directly comparable with a minimum that counts fulfillment fees only. We ship from one warehouse in Austin, Texas, with ambient storage only, on a 3-month auto-renewing agreement with 60 days' notice to leave. On terms, ShipBots' published month-to-month is more flexible, and its pallet storage, about $31 a month, is lower than our $40. See our pricing for what's included.
  • You need temperature control. We offer ambient storage only, so ShipBots or another specialist is the better place to look.
  • You ship only a few dozen orders a month. Keeping fulfillment in house for now is often the honest choice, because a 3PL's fixed monthly costs, like ShipBots' maintenance fee or our minimum, weigh most at low volume. Revisit it when packing starts taking time you'd rather spend selling.

Simpl Fulfillment is a 3PL too, so we're one of the alternatives on this page.

FAQs

How much does ShipBots cost?

ShipBots' pricing page says pick, pack and ship starts at "as little as $6.29" an order, with storage at $1 per bin and $7.25 per pallet per week. Its FAQ adds a monthly maintenance fee that covers account management and one software connection, but no amount is published. The pricing page also doesn't say whether $6.29 includes postage or what receiving costs, so ask for a sample invoice for your typical order.

Does ShipBots have a monthly minimum?

ShipBots' FAQ says there is no volume minimum, and its apparel FAQ says it works with brands shipping 50 orders a month. It also charges a monthly maintenance fee whatever your order count, so a slow month still has a cost floor. Ask for the fee amount before comparing ShipBots with a 3PL that publishes a minimum.

Does ShipBots require a contract?

ShipBots' FAQ says it "works month to month on a Master Service Agreement with no mandatory multi-year lock-in." The agreement isn't published, so ask for it before signing and check the notice period, any termination charge and how your inventory is released if you leave.

Are ShipBots reviews reliable?

The rating is high but the sample is small: ShipBots has a Trustpilot score of 4.7 from 34 reviews, and Trustpilot notes the company hasn't invited customers recently, so reviews may not be representative. Several recent Trustpilot reviews describe a sales call rather than ongoing fulfillment, so ask for a reference from a current client at your volume.

Where is ShipBots located?

ShipBots' supplement certification names a facility in Gardena, California, and its warehouse page describes Los Angeles near the Long Beach port. Its FAQ also refers to operations in Missouri and North Carolina, and its homepage mentions warehouses on both coasts, so ask which warehouse would hold your inventory.

Is ShipBots a good fit for supplement brands?

It is one of its strengths. ShipBots' FAQ says it is certified to NSF/ANSI 455-2, the GMP standard for dietary supplements, at its Gardena facility, that it is FDA-registered, and that it tracks lots for recalls. The certification is also listed publicly on NSF's website, so you can confirm the facility and the product types it covers before you sign.
