UPS handles the long-haul leg, then in many areas hands the package to USPS for the final delivery to the door or PO box. You trade a day or two of speed for a lower rate, which makes it a fit for low-cost orders that are not time-sensitive.

How SurePost works

UPS picks up your package and moves it through its network toward the destination region. For the last mile, USPS often completes delivery, which is how the price stays low and why SurePost can reach PO boxes that standard UPS Ground cannot. UPS has been bringing more of that final delivery in-house over time, so the last carrier can vary by area.

Cost and delivery time

SurePost costs less than UPS Ground because of the USPS hand-off. Delivery usually runs a few business days, depending on the distance between origin and destination. It is an economy service, so treat the timeline as a target, not a guarantee.

When to use it, and when not to
