What is UPS 3-Day Select?

UPS 3 Day Select is a UPS domestic package service for the 48 contiguous states. UPS groups it under Accelerated shipping alongside UPS 2nd Day Air, for shipments it describes as "important, but not critical." In the UPS lineup it sits between UPS Ground and the air services.

Which days it delivers

Saturday counts. UPS's domestic services page, read September 17, 2026, states that for UPS 3 Day Select "Saturday delivery is available." So if the delivery date UPS quotes for a shipment falls on a Saturday, that is a working delivery day for this service, not a placeholder for Monday.

Sunday does not count. UPS's weekend services page says UPS "offers Monday through Saturday services for residential and commercial packages" and that there are "no pickups nor deliveries on Sunday." The Saturday fee answer on that same page is written for ground packages, so we do not apply it to 3 Day Select here; whatever Saturday delivery costs on this service, if anything, comes from your UPS quote. For UPS weekend service more broadly, see does UPS deliver on Saturday.

How long it takes

UPS says 3 Day Select "delivers to the 48 contiguous states", which rules out Alaska, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico. The number in the name is not backed by a stated day range. We read UPS's domestic services page on September 17, 2026, and it gives UPS Ground a range of "one to five business days" while giving 3 Day Select no day figure at all. For a specific origin, destination, and ship date, get the quoted delivery date from UPS Calculate Time and Cost.

Is the delivery date guaranteed?

Not under the UPS Service Guarantee as it stands today. UPS's Service Guarantee page, read September 17, 2026, lists the guarantee as currently active for UPS Next Day Air Early, UPS Next Day Air, UPS Next Day Air Saver, and UPS 2nd Day Air A.M. among domestic services. UPS 3 Day Select is not on that list, and the page states that the guarantee "remains suspended for all other UPSĀ® shipments and services not specified in the above sections, from any origin to any destination." UPS adds that the guarantee "is subject to change and certain conditions, exclusions and limitations" and points readers to the UPS Tariff/Terms and Conditions of Service for the details.

Our reading, not UPS's wording: the date UPS quotes for a 3 Day Select shipment is the date it plans against, but a late delivery is not currently covered by the Service Guarantee. UPS can change that list, so check the page before you promise a customer a date or plan a claim around it.

3 Day Select vs UPS Ground

UPS files the two services in different tiers. Its services overview puts UPS Ground under Budget-Friendly shipping and 3 Day Select under Accelerated shipping. On transit time, the figure UPS publishes on its domestic services page is the Ground range of "one to five business days". For the 3 Day Select side, take the quoted date from UPS Calculate Time and Cost for your origin, destination, and ship date, and compare the two dates. We do not put a day count on the difference, because it can change from one lane to the next. Two other differences are on paper. UPS Ground delivers to "all 50 states and Puerto Rico", while 3 Day Select covers the 48 contiguous states. And neither service is on the list of domestic services the UPS Service Guarantee currently covers, so picking one over the other does not change whether a late delivery is covered. Read what UPS Ground is for the Ground side in detail.

Size and weight limits

UPS lists 3 Day Select as "available for packages up to 150 lbs. and 108" long." Those are the same figures UPS gives for UPS Ground on the same page, so moving a package up from Ground to 3 Day Select does not change what fits.

When to use it

Simpl's view: quote both services for the lane before you pick. Use 3 Day Select when its quoted date lands earlier than the Ground quote by enough to matter for that order, or when a Saturday delivery day helps. If the two quoted dates match, there is no speed reason to change service. Move to one of the air services on the Service Guarantee list when the date itself has to be covered by the guarantee, not just planned for.

If you would rather not make that call order by order, Simpl's ecommerce fulfillment ships with UPS, USPS, and FedEx, and carrier selection is included in the per-order rate.
