Have you ever wondered why shipping costs are so high on Alibaba? It can often be frustrating to find the right product at the best price only to have it jacked up by high shipping fees. In this blog post, we'll take a closer look at what's driving those costs and see if there is anything that can be done about it.
What Is Alibaba?
Alibaba.com is a B2B online marketplace. The platform is secured, trusted, and used by millions of businesses. Alibaba shipping is relatively higher in cost compared to other shipping services. You might think it will cost you more to ship products due to the distance, and why should sellers opt for this expensive shipping service. Due to its excellent service factors, Alibaba is chosen over others.
Why is Shipping from Alibaba So Expensive?
Alibaba connects buyers and sellers from around the world. With so much global trade, you might expect low shipping costs. However, many Alibaba shoppers are surprised to find high shipping fees. What's behind these steep delivery charges?
It's All About Location
As a Chinese company, Alibaba works with suppliers in China and neighboring countries. It costs more to ship goods long distances from Asia to places like North America or Europe. Air and sea freight have extra fees for fuel, labor, and security.
A Range of Shipping Options
Alibaba offers free shipping, but there are caveats. Sellers typically use slow boat shipping which can take months. For faster delivery, you pay express fees to courier services like DHL, FedEx, or UPS. Air freight splits the difference on cost and speed.
Extra Charges Add Up
Products from different suppliers often ship separately. Multiple handling and transportation fees accumulate. Plus, Alibaba has order minimums to get free shipping. Smaller purchases incur additional delivery costs.
Tips for Saving on Delivery
You can cut down on postal and handling fees. Consider these money-saving suggestions:
- Select sellers providing free express shipping
- Consolidate orders from fewer suppliers
- Use a freight forwarding service
- Choose cheaper regular postal services
Getting goods from Alibaba affordably involves planning. But with wise choices, you can reduce the impact of those high shipping costs.
