6 Factors for Choosing the Best Amazon FBA Prep Services

If you are ready to take your Fulfilled by Amazon (FBA) sales to the next level, there are some factors to consider when choosing the best FBA prep services for you.

A quick Google search reveals many companies offering FBA prep services. Which is the right choice? That is the question we are going to answer today.


It all boils down to your unique business needs. Location, pricing, customization options, storage, and more all must be considered. These are the top 6 factors to ask yourself to help find the best Amazon prep services for your business.


1. Location

Do you need an FBA prep center near you? Or would you prefer somewhere that is close to Amazon warehouses? Most sellers want a happy medium. Choosing a midway point between you and the nearest Amazon warehouse(s) can help reduce Amazon shipping costs. If you are located in the USA, the central US may be your best bet. Austin, Texas, is a good example. That way, when you ship products to the Amazon prep center, it won’t cost you an arm and a leg.


2. Pricing

As an Amazon seller, reducing business expenses is key. Each FBA prep service has its own pricing structure. Which one works best for you? Many of these companies have flat rates based on shipping destination and shipment weight. Others may price differently based on the type of item that needs to be shipped. Be sure to let them know what kind of products you sell, and negotiate the rate from there. You’ll have to fidget with the numbers a bit to see which pricing structure makes the most sense for your business.


3. Turnaround time

Getting products prepped and sent to Amazon warehouse quickly and accurately is important. Many FBA prep centers guarantee a turnaround time of 24-48 hours, but not all of them do. It’s a good idea to ask before committing to a particular third-party Amazon prep service. If you do not care if your inventory is delivered to Amazon’s distribution centers quickly, then you don’t need to worry about this. However, most sellers want their products delivered to Amazon fast. The faster products arrive at the warehouse, the sooner they can be sold.


4. Customization

3PL Amazon FBA prep services all must follow Amazon FBA guidelines. While they all offer the same basic service, some go a step further by offering certain customizations that might be necessary depending on the type of products you sell. For example, you may need customs forms, freight forwarding, labels, product bundling services, and more. The level of customization and extra services you need can affect which prep service you choose. If you need a lot of flexibility and options, it’s a good idea to let them know up from upfront can rule out any companies that don’t have such offerings.


5. Temperature control 

If you sell perishable items on Amazon such as food and drink, or products that can be damaged by hot or cold temperatures, then you will need an FBA prep service that offers temperature-controlled warehouse space. Even products like cosmetics, health supplements, and household supplies can be damaged by extreme temperatures. That’s why it is important to ask if products are stored in a temperature-controlled environment. It’s easy to assume that all prep facilities have temperature control, but this is not always the case. When in doubt, ask. You don’t want customers receiving damaged or defective products, or have to pay out of pocket to send replacements.


6. Facility Size

Small-time Amazon sellers can work with smaller FBA prep services. But if you have a lot of SKUs, you’re going to need a bigger facility that can handle all your storage needs. How big are your products? Do they have a loading dock to receive pallets? How much is it all going to cost? These are all factors to consider.

Now that you’re armed with these six questions to ask, you will have an easier time choosing the right Amazon FBA prep service for you. When choosing an FBA prep service, remember that your business goals and needs may change over time. You may be a small seller now, but in a few years, you may have hundreds or even thousands of SKUs.
